Change Your Benefits
Employees can update their benefits during qualifying life events or Open Enrollment periods. Changes are effective the following month after paperwork is processed, with some exceptions.
2024 Dental
Henrico County offers three options for dental coverage through Delta Dental of Virginia. All Delta Dental members have access to the Amplifon Hearing Healthcare Program at no additional cost.

2024 Health Care
Henrico County offers three point-of-service plans through Anthem Healthkeepers for full-time and part-time benefit-eligible employees. Prescription drug and vision coverage are included. The County provides a supplement toward the cost of health insurance for full-time employees.
2024 Short Term Income Protection
Henrico offers income protection for employees if you should be unable to work due to illness or injury. Income protection can help you handle essential living expenses if you are unable to work.
2024 Voluntary Benefits
Employees may enroll through Pierce Insurance for pre-tax voluntary benefits such as Vision – Materials Only, Group Accident, Group Critical Illness, and Group Hospital Indemnity. Post-tax voluntary benefits include LegalEASE, Identity Theft Protection, Life Insurance with Long Term Care, and Pet Insurance.
Life Insurance
For full-time employees, life insurance is a part of the Virginia Retirement System and is 100% paid for by the County. Eligible employees receive 2x their salary in the Basic Group Life Insurance Plan. Optional Life Insurance is available for additional employee coverage and to cover eligible dependents.
Long Term Income Protection
The County provides the core coverage to protect annual salary up to $50,000. Eligible employees are automatically covered at no cost.
Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
Eligible employees may be entitled to take leave to:
- Care for a parent, child, or spouse with a serious health condition;
- Care for and bond with a newborn, adopted, or foster child recently placed with you;
- Recover from your own serious health condition (including pregnancy); or
- Deal with certain obligations (including childcare and related activities) arising from a spouse, parent, or child being on, or called to, active duty in the military. For workers whose spouse, child, parent, or next of kin is a member (or in certain cases, a veteran) of the armed services with a serious illness or injury incurred in the line of duty on active duty, the FMLA provides up to 26 weeks of unpaid leave per year.
