Your Role in Risk Management

Each day, Henrico County employees provide outstanding service for our citizens. An employee’s response may be as simple as redirecting a caller to the appropriate department, or as vital as repairing a water main break in sub-freezing temperatures. The Department of Human Resources Division of Risk Management (RM) oversees many vital County functions for citizens and employees alike. However, none of Risk Management’s goals can be met without support from each member of the Henrico County family. The chart below outlines the sections of Risk Management, their goals, the responsibilities of Risk Management employees and the responsibilities of all County employees:

Environmental Quality 

Comply with Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

Protect the environment by improving practices for County operations and facilities.

Prevent spills and releases into the environment. 

Help ensure all employees receive effective and appropriate employee training.

Conduct routine assessments to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Serve as a liaison between regulating authorities so that Henrico County’s practices are current or are modified as needed.  

Complete and understand all assigned training.

While performing job duties, comply with all County Environmental SOPs and directives.

Remain mindful of any environmental impacts while initiating and completing job tasks. 
Occupational Safety & Health  

Comply with Virginia’s Occupational Safety & Health (VOSH) Standards.

Reduce work-related injuries and health hazards for all employees.

Remain knowledgeable of changes to the VOSH standards. Incorporate changes with current County safety policies.  

Provide Agency Heads and Key Officials (AHKO) with written safety program templates and training guidance for their employees.

Serve as consultants for AHKOs to facilitate VOSH compliance.

Perform routine safety assessments throughout the County to ensure compliance with VOSH standards.

 

Be mindful of training and use safe work practices at all times.

Report unsafe conditions to a supervisor at once.

With co-workers and supervisors, create an effective and evolving safety culture.

 
Liability  Provide protection for General Government & Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) in the event of accidental losses.   Review claim reports and make timely decisions regarding payments for each reported accident and incident.   Complete incident and accident forms with as much detail as possible (within 24 hours). Provide pictures and other documentation if necessary.  
Worker’s Compensation (WC)   Promote timely reporting and ensure appropriate claims handling of all WC incidents for General Government and HCPS.   Ensure the timely reporting of all WC related accident claims for General Government and HCPS.  

Telephone “Company Nurse” to report the incident. Complete WC claims packet within 24 hours.

E-mail packet to [email protected]. Employees should check e-mail for information from VaCorp.

Keep supervisor updated on their work status after each appointment.
