SUMMARY:Safe Riders- Child Safety Seat Check-Up Event
DESCRIPTION:The Henrico County Police Division in collaboration with Henrico County Recreation & Parks will host a Child Safety Seat Check-Up event on Wednesday\, Sept. 23\, 2026\, from 9 a.m. to noon at Deep Run Recreation Center (9900 Ridgefield Parkway\, Richmond\, VA 23233) as part of Child Passenger Safety Week. \nWHO\nThis FREE event is an opportunity for Richmond metro-area residents to make sure their child’s car seat/booster seat is installed properly. The event will include a variety of vendors highlighting children’s safety\, children’s activities\, and giveaways! \nFACTS\nAccording to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)\, while most parents and caregivers are confident that they have correctly installed their child’s car seat\, almost half (46%) have been installed incorrectly. A properly used/installed car seat can reduce the risk of death for your child by 71%. \nWHAT TO BRING\nIf you plan to attend the event\, please bring the following items/individuals\, if possible: \n\nThe seats with accompanying manuals\n\n\nChild(ren) who will be using the seats\, if possible\n\n\nAny caregivers (ie. family members\, nannies/sitters) who transport the child(ren) in the seats so everyone can be helped and educated on proper use\n\nThis event is currently scheduled rain or shine. In the event of severe inclement weather\, the event will be postponed to a later date. \nMORE INFORMATION\nIn the event there is a large number of vehicles waiting for the check-up\, Henrico Police does offer Child Safety Seat Check-Ups by appointment. An online form can be filled out and one of our Child Passenger Safety Technicians will work to schedule an appointment with you. \nIf you have further questions about this event\, you can email police@henrico.gov. \nLearn more about finding the right car seat or booster seat for your child.

SUMMARY:Ready\, Set\, Close! First-Time Home Buyer Event
DESCRIPTION:Qualifying homebuyers and home builders interested in Henrico County’s affordable housing initiative can get information on how to participate and ask questions about available homes at “Ready\, Set\, Close!” on Thursday\, Sept. 24. \nThe information fair is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. at Deep Run Recreation Center\, 9900 Ridgefield Parkway. The event is free and will be held as an open house. Attendees are welcome to arrive at any time. \nProspective homebuyers will be able to meet with staff from the county’s nonprofit partners including Partnership for Housing Affordability\, Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) of Virginia\, the Maggie Walker Community Land Trust\, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Virginia\, Richmond Habitat for Humanity and Virginia Housing to discuss homeownership programs. \nAttendees also can learn about homes that are available or soon will be through the Henrico Affordable Housing Trust Fund from the program’s home builder partners\, including Stanley Martin Homes\, HHHunt Homes\, StyleCraft Homes\, Ryan Homes\, Center Creek Homes and D.R. Horton. \nHome builders and developers are also welcome to attend to learn more about incentives Henrico can offer for-profit and nonprofit builders to develop quality\, affordable housing in the county.

DESCRIPTION:The Henrico Bug Bizarre\, a community festival celebrating the joy and excitement of entomology\, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday\, Oct. 10 at the Deep Run Recreation Center\, 9900 Ridgefield Parkway. \nThe free event will feature live insects and other insect-related displays\, including hissing cockroaches\, tarantulas and a “bug zoo.” Experts will share information on a variety of subjects\, including pollinators\, garden insects\, forest pests and public health. All ages are welcome and the event will offer children’s activities. \nThe Henrico Bug Bizarre is being organized by the Henrico County Department of Public Works.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Henrico County Specialty Dockets for the annual Bernard Greene Memorial 5k. The event will be held on Saturday\, Oct. 17\, at 9 a.m. (the race will start at 9:30 a.m.) at Deep Run Park\, 9900 Ridgefield Parkway\, Henrico\, VA 23233.  \nRegistration is $40 per person\, and all proceeds benefit the current participants and alumni of specialty dockets in support of sober activities\, graduation celebrations and family days. \nA T-shirt is included with each registration. Check your email for a discount code. \nThe event is named in memory of the Recovery Court’s previous administrator\, Bernard L. Greene\, Jr.\, who passed away March 7\, 2019. Mr. Greene touched the hearts of many people and helped others change their lives for the better. He enjoyed running\, cycling and spending time outdoors. We will forever hold Bernard in our hearts for all he has done for the community and the Henrico County Recovery Court.  \nThis event will feature a prize raffle for a week’s stay in Nags Head\, NC.
