SUMMARY:Tree Planting at Nuckols Farm Elementary School
DESCRIPTION:Join Capital Trees and HEART for a Volunteer Community Tree Planting!\nVolunteer Duties \nCome learn about and implement an innovative planting technique called the Miyawaki Method of Reforestation. The method involves planting young trees (whips) very close together to create a mini-forest that matures years faster than traditional reforestation methods. Volunteers will assist with planting 2500 whip trees – a very young\, slender\, unbranched tree or seedling\, often 1-3 years old and sold with bare roots – at Nuckols Farm Elementary School\, increasing Henrico’s tree canopy and enhancing biodiversity in the park. Volunteers will work alongside Capital Trees and Henrico County leaders – no experience necessary! This is a family-friendly event and a great chance to learn best practices for your own home. \nParticipants will have two opportunities to assist on each day: \n\n9am-11:30am\n1pm-3:30pm\n\nRequirements\nNo gardening experience necessary\, but ideally volunteers should be ready to: \n\nBend\, squat\, kneel\, and /or stand for extended periods\nLift up to 20lbs\nUse hand tools such as: trowel\, shovel\, etc\nBe comfortable working outside\nPlease bring a refillable water bottle\nClosed-toed\, sturdy shoes\nAll other materials\, including gloves\, will be provided.\nPer Henrico County School requirements\, all volunteers must be willing to submit a background check following registration.\n\nVisit CF Engage for more information and to sign up for a slot (or a few)! Hope to see you there!
